Wrestling Gods
In lieu of more years then I can recall from 1979 to 2013 and moving forward or beyond
For many, many years I watched professional wrestler promotions on television
Being a young boy growing up along this fabulous journey
These venerated entertainer legends was a colossal part of my life and still are
When I was a wee lad I watched these gigantic men put on show after show
Often dressed up in colorful speedos and overall tights they went to battle every week
These enormous brawling fighters stirred my adventurous spirit so mesmerizingly
Every weekend I watched my idolized obsessions battle in the wrestling ring
To hear the fans chant calling out these provocative legends names symphonically
This was done sharing musical camaraderie and in all patronizing solidarity
These journeymen my flamboyant heroes grappled to their hearts content
Menfolk that always enjoy the vibrant, colorful, and imaginative spotlight
Iconic warriors and their routines always appealed to the winds of change
Ostentatious soldiers of fortune always putting their physiques on the line
They risked their bodies frames, limbs, and well-being to amuse the devoted populace
These endearing protagonists of mine always delivered with the confidence I needed in life
The crowds were always full of fresh beautiful ladies and fledgling rambunctious boys
The irony of the faces and heels is that many of them turned to drugs and suicide
This broke the fans hearts to see many of our favorite characters die before their time
It is not like they fought in an unpopular war on foreign soil
And, to be rejected by loved ones and peers because of being sanctimonious
Still it be stills my heart to see mostly grown men being not able to
Truly handle the limelight that success that fame handed these combatants of exaltation
My childhood and the splendor days of wrestling are long over with
Now it is all about overestimated safety and protection for the grapplers
This gives all fans a watered down version of sanctified predicted matches
I have many wonderful and cherished memories watching my favorite wrestlers
Kerry Von Erich slammed against steel post during infamous cage match by Michael PS Hayes
During one of wrestling’s all time remember able matches two Legends battle it out
Mankind falls through ceiling fence facing the Undertaker busting his kidney in cage match
At Wrestle Mania 3 Hulk Hogan is passed the torch while body slamming Andre the Giant
From this great wrestling moment starts the cable expansion of wrestling; And,
The birth of Hulkamaniacs is born launching the careers of many soon to be famous Wrestlers
For many months in a row the legend Superstar Billy Graham wrestles every week on TBS for AWA
GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) helps me realize puberty as I become a young man
Watching Texas Championship Wrestling promotion becomes a part of my life from 1982-1990
I realize I spent too much time watching the symphonies of wrestling called male soap operas
Day in and day out for thirty years I saw my heroes fade into oblivion beyond reality
Now a majority of them are ten feet under gone way too young that is for sure
Sadly, these memories haunt my soul ever so bittersweet because one wrestling promotion
WCCW titles its promotions with the title “The Triumphs and Tragedy of WCCW”
(World Class Championship Wrestling) is where many of my young wrestling memories are
I watched all these promotions of wrestling promotions and then some growing up
(The WCCW, AWA, NWA, GWA, TCW, GLOW, WWF, WCW, ECW, MAW, MWA, and FCW)
And, I should have cracked the books more faithfully
Life is truly a unique experience for us all and certainly too short
Too not live life to its fullest potential is a travesty…
